    1. Methacrylic anhydride reacts with water to form corrosive methacrylic acid. Methacrylic anhydride is likely to have similar and perhaps stronger irritant or corrosive properties, due to the evolution of heat during hydrolysis. Predicted effects include irritation and/or corrosion of the skin, eyes, mucous membranes, respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts, and sensitization. Following an acute exposure, headache, dizziness, weakness, and nausea may occur.
    1. A male student died of non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema (acute lung injury) 23 hours after a brief exposure to toxic vapors of acryloyl chloride (96%) and methacrylic anhydride (94%).
